Em1.970 o pássaro de fogo inicia a segunda geração com faróis simples , as leis mais severas referente a emissão e a crise do petróleo acabariam por domar o esportivo nos anos seguintes.Em 1.974 a Pontiac foi obrigada a colocar o para choques dianteiro por lei de segurança ,em 1.977 vieram com os quatro faróis retangulares, não tão bonitos, porem o modelo fez um grande sucesso no cinema nas mãos de Burt Reynolds em Smokey and the Bandit com a famosa Fênix dourada pintada no capô.
