Em 1964 nascia com grande participação do engenheiro chefe da Pontiac, John Zachary De Lorean , o mesmo que mais tarde iria fundar a De Lorean Motors e construir o DMC-12 que ficou famoso em Back to the future, bem mas esta é uma outra estória, voltando De Lorean foi um dos responsáveis em tornar realidade o automóvel que viria ser o primeiro Muscle Car americano, originado do Pontiac Tempest, o Pontiac GTO, nome herdado da Ferrari 250 Gran Turismo Omologatto, vinha com um enorme motor V8 389 de 6,4 litros, um carro muito rápido e com preço acessível, formula infalível de um grande sucesso. Bem vamos a primeira geração desse grande clássico( 1.964 a 1.967 ).
